In today’s legal environment schools continue to be challenged by students who are under the influence of alcohol and narcotics. A school must confront such behavior, and the best way to do this is through a well trained staff who can recognize students under the influence of alcohol and drugs on campus.
This course is designed to provide school authorities with the knowledge and skills to recognize individuals under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Topics include signs and symptoms of drug influence, short term and long term effects of drug abuse, recognition of drug use paraphernalia, recognition of smuggling and concealment techniques and hands on evaluation of subjects under the influence.
CURRICULUM:
This course will provide hands on training in evaluating and recognizing individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Students will be given the opportunity to evaluate a subject through progressive stages of alcohol influence. Students will be instructed on how to recognize the signs and symptoms of the seven categories of narcotics, and other drugs.
Group participation and discussion is widely used in the course. Students are encouraged to share their experiences or ideas on dealing with drug use and abuse. Each student will be provided with a pupilometer and a reference manual that lists the common signs and symptoms of each of the seven categories of narcotics.
